A teenager has become the fourth member of an armed gang to be locked up following a robbery where a family was threatened as they prepared dinner.

Jordan Morrisey, 19, will serve eight and a half years’ detention for his role in the raid at a home on Swanscoe Lane, Higher Hurdsfield.

The victims, a married couple and their 10-year-old daughter, were getting ready for their evening meal when the thugs struck and their pet dog was attacked with a hammer.

After bursting into the home the gang demanded the family’s savings and stole mobile phones, watches taken off the victims’ wrists, cash and other jewellery.

Morrisey, of no fixed address, had admitted aggravated burglary at a previous hearing.

He was also sentenced for cannabis and cocaine possession as well as assault, at Chester Crown Court.

The raid, which police described as a ‘terrifying ordeal’, happened a week before Christmas last year.

Three other men were sentenced in April, having previously admitted  robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

Rebanne Cantrill, 19, of Brigham Street, Manchester, was sentenced to 14 years.

Devon Patterson, 21, of Stan Jolley Walk, Manchester, was jailed for 10 and a half years.

And John McLeod, 19, of Back Haslam Street, Bury, was given eight and a half years.

Speaking after that hearing Detective Sergeant Simon Mills, of Macclesfield CID, said: “The offenders subjected the victims to a terrifying ordeal, holding them at knifepoint in their own home and threatening them with a claw hammer.

“They even assaulted the victims’ 12-month-old dog with a hammer in an attempt to get the family to hand over their possessions and life savings – a truly despicable action and luckily the young dog did not sustain any serious injuries.”
